Traveling to Thailand during the rainy season has many advantages. For example, prices for accommodation, flight tickets and tours are usually lower than in the high season. You have more space and freedom to sightsee, enjoy beaches and explore local markets without being surrounded by large crowds. The vegetation blossoms and the rice fields become lush and picturesque. The rainy season can also be a good time to enjoy wellness activities. Many resorts and spas offer special deals at this time. However, it is important to note that the weather can be unpredictable during the rainy season.
- Lower pricesDuring the rainy season, prices for accommodation, flight tickets and tours are usually lower than in the high season. This offers a great opportunity to explore Thailand and save money in the process.
- Fewer touristsAs the rainy season is not the most popular time to travel, tourist attractions are less crowded. There are more opportunities to visit sights spontaneously and in peace, enjoy beaches and explore local markets without being surrounded by large crowds.
- Greener landscapeThe rainy season brings high levels of rainfall, transforming Thailand's landscape into a vibrant green. The vegetation blossoms and the rice fields become lush and picturesque. This can lead to breathtaking landscapes and photo opportunities.
- Authentic experienceAs there are generally fewer tourists on the road, travelers can experience the everyday life of the locals more intensively during the rainy season. It creates an opportunity to delve deeper into Thai culture, visit local markets and experience traditional festivals and events.
- Wellness and relaxationThe rainy season can also be a good time to enjoy wellness activities. Many resorts and spas have special offers at this time. Or how about a traditional Thai massage? As it doesn't rain every day, you can simply relax on the beach on dry days and escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
Another tip: The weather in Thailand can be really unpredictable during the rainy season. There are always sunny days, but particularly rainy and stormy days are also inevitable. And when it crashes, it really crashes! So be prepared for all weather conditions and pack a rain jacket and sturdy shoes to be as flexible as possible on site. We speak from "puddle-wet" experience ...

Pro list:
There are many advantages to planning a trip to Thailand despite the rainy season:
- Accommodation and flights are cheaper in the low season (April - October) than in the high season (November - March)
- There are generally fewer tourists in the area, so you can visit places spontaneously or book excursions and guided tours at short notice.
- If you are outside: a short rain shower at temperatures of around 30 °C is a welcome way to cool down!
- You have time to stay in your accommodation and reflect on your experiences or work on our blog, like we do.
- There are also many indoor activities that you can do. Especially in big cities like Bangkok, a rainy day is a great opportunity to explore one of the many shopping malls and buy souvenirs, or you could marvel at the architecture of modern skyscrapers from the inside. You could also visit a museum in Bangkok's National Museum or the Bangkok Art & Culture Center (BACC). Of course, you could also simply relax in the hotel and do nothing, or treat yourself to a spa day with a relaxing Thai massage. One of our personal highlights is the unique café culture, which is widespread throughout Asia. Almost every café has its own main feature, on which the offer or the interior design is based (= so-called theme cafés). In Bangkok, for example, there is a beautiful flower café or various animal cafés (from cats, dogs, rabbits, raccoons or owls ... everything is included). Last but not least, an insider tip to spontaneously and unplanned capture a few local vibes of the city: Just get on and off the subway somewhere - you're sure to experience insights into Thai culture that you weren't aware of. Especially in the small side streets.
Contra list:
Of course, there are a few things to bear in mind when traveling to Thailand during the rainy season:
- More rainy days (between 10 - 20 days per month)
- Rising humidity
- You quickly feel exhausted and too tired for activities
- There are fewer tourist offers in the south (tours, sightseeing)
- Unfortunately, the number of flights will decrease from May (source?)
- Not all hotels are open in the rainy season (source?)
- For the party people: Unfortunately, there are almost no electronic festivals at this time of year. Fortunately, the legendary Full Moon Party takes place as usual despite the rainy season on Koh Phangan - every month at full moon (just check the "Full Moon Calendar" on our page "Festivals & Events")
