Journey to Sukhothai

The historic Sukhothai has a small airport, around 30 kilometers north of the old town. From Bangkok, you can reach the old capital of Thailand by direct flight in just one hour and 20 minutes. From the airport, the onward journey by bus or cab takes another 30-40 minutes. Sukhothai also has very good long-distance bus connections. These usually depart from Bangkok Mo Chit in approx. 6-7 hours to Sukhothai. There is no direct train connection. The more flexible way to get there would be by rental car - you can plan stopovers or overnight stays to explore Thailand at your leisure or drive all the way through in 6-7 hours. You can find an overview of all connections on 12go.asiaª.

Excursions in Sukhothai

The ancient capital of the first Thai kingdom is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site! The Sukhothai Historical Park is a magical place full of temple ruins, ancient statues, well-tended gardens and developed walking and cycling paths. Wat Mahathat with its impressive Buddha statues and Wat Si Chum are particularly impressive. We recommend a walk in the early morning or evening, when the sunlight reflects on the ruins and the paths are almost deserted. All tours and tickets for Sukhothai can be found at GetYourGuideª, Viatorª or Klookª.
