Pa Pong Piang rice terraces
The Pa Pong Piang rice terraces are located in the Doi Inthanon National Park and are among the most impressive photo spots around Chiang Mai. Rice terraces that nestle against the mountain slopes like waves await you here. The view of the surrounding mountain landscape is particularly beautiful during the rainy season from June to October. You can easily walk through the small village, but as the rice terraces are privately owned, you should not enter the fields without permission. If you want to arrive relaxed, experience the fields up close and learn more about the life of the farmers, we recommend a guided tour.
Costs
In principle, a visit to the village of Pa Pong Piang is free of charge. However, if you are traveling from Chiang Mai by car or motorcycle, you will have to drive through Doi Inthanon National Park. There is an entrance fee to enter or drive through the national park. An adult with a car pays a total of 330 THB. However, the ticket is valid for several days and gives you access to all the attractions in the national park.
Arrival
You can get to the Pa Pong Piang rice terraces by car or scooter. However, there are very few parking facilities in the village itself and there are no public toilets. If you come from Mae Chaem via road 1192, you save the ticket price for the national park as you don't have to pass through a checkpoint. However, if you are traveling from Chiang Mai or Chom Thong, the route leads through Doi Inthanon National Park. There is an entrance fee to the park and you have to buy your ticket after CheckPoint 1. After CheckPoint 2, turn left - from here it is a steep, winding but asphalted road down to the small mountain village.
Overnight stay
There is a small campsite in Pa Pong Piang as well as simple huts, most of which have no electricity or running water. Tourism is still pleasantly limited here, which adds to the charm of the place - however, it can make booking accommodation a little more complicated. It is easier if you book accommodation in advance in Chiang Mai or Chom Thong and is planning a day trip to the national park.
Guided tours
For stress-free planning, we recommend that you book a guided tour lasting several days including overnight stay via GetYourGuideª or Klookª to book. Not only will you discover the most beautiful photo spots, but you will also gain exciting insights into traditional rice cultivation.
