Pha Chor Canyon

Pha Chor Canyon is an impressive rock formation in the northern part of the Mae Wang National Parkwhich is often referred to as the "mini Grand Canyon". Formed by thousands of years of erosion, the clay-colored columns rise up to 30 meters into the air and offer a spectacular natural experience. The visit is particularly beautiful in good weather, when the warm sunlight makes the rocks glow. A circular trail leads you through the fascinating landscape, past impressive rock towers and unique rock formations. The hike takes around 45 minutes, is mostly easy to walk, but also leads over a few steps, narrow paths and a small gorge. There are parking facilities, small snack stands and toilets at the entrance.

Costs

Entrance to Pha Chor Canyon costs 100 THB per person and a car costs 30 THB. The entrance fee covers access to the entire Mae Wang National Park. Parking is free of charge.

Arrival

The canyon is located in the Mae Wang National Parksouthwest of Chiang Mai and east of the Doi Inthanon National Park. There are several parking spaces: At the Parking lot 1 you will find a viewpoint, inexpensive snacks, pasta, drinks, spacious seating for relaxing and clean sanitary facilities. Parking lot 3 is recommended for senior citizens, as the path to the canyon is more comfortable, equipped with handrails and rest areas and is not too steep. Clean toilets are also available here. A paved circular trail (approx. 1.2 kilometers) leads from the parking lots through the canyon.

Overnight stay

As the Pha Chor Canyon is somewhat remote, accommodation in Chiang Mai is an ideal starting point. From there, you can easily visit the canyon as part of a day trip. Alternatively, you can find Chom Thong some smaller resorts and homestays if you want to enjoy nature for longer.
