    Floating Pagodas

The Floating Pagodas - officially known as Wat Chaloem Phra Kiat - are among the most spectacular sights around Chiang Mai. High up on the rugged peaks of Doi Phra Bat in Lampang province, white and golden stupas are enthroned, seemingly floating weightlessly above the clouds. From the parking lot, a shared cab will take you a little way up the mountain before the actual ascent begins: Countless steps lead you close to the mountain via beautiful viewpoints up to the pagodas. Once at the top, at an altitude of 815 meters, a breathtaking 360° panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and valleys awaits you; and of course the incomparable sight of the "floating pagodas"!

    Costs

Admission to the Floating Pagodas, including a ride on the shared cab, costs THB 490 per adult. The large parking lot at the starting point of the shared cabs is free of charge.

    • Ticket price for adults at the starting point of the shared cabs: 490 THB
    • Ticket price for children at the starting point of the shared cabs: 280 THB

    Arrival

The Floating Pagodas are located in Lampang province, about 80 kilometers southeast of Chiang Mai. From Chiang Mai, you can reach the parking lot of the temple in about 2.5 hours by car or scooter. The roads are mostly well developed. There are toilets and a small restaurant at the parking lot. Once you arrive at the main parking lot, a shared cab will take you up the mountain for a fee. The footpath to the pagodas starts at the upper parking lot and leads up 540 steps to the summit. Public transport does not go directly to the temple, so it is advisable to bring your own vehicle or book a guided tour.

    Overnight stay

As the Floating Pagodas are a little out of the way, accommodation in Chiang Mai is an ideal starting point. From there, you can easily visit the pagodas as part of a day trip. Alternatively, you can find Lampang some smaller hotels and resorts if you want to shorten the journey and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the region for longer.

    Guided tours

On this guided day tourª From Chiang Mai, you will experience the impressive Floating Pagodas and then relax in the hot springs of Chae Son National Park. After climbing around 540 steps, you will be rewarded with a spectacular panoramic view before ending the day relaxing in the warm mineral water.
