Namuang Waterfall 1
The mountains and forests of Koh Samui hide some interesting highlights, including the picturesque Namuang Waterfall 1. It has the number because there are two of them, but they are both quite different (you can find out more about this below). Namuang Waterfall 1 is quite centrally located on the island and is easily accessible by scooter or car. Upon arrival at the site, there is a parking fee of 20 THB per scooter or 40 THB per car, but entry to the waterfall is free. On the way there you will pass a few souvenir stores and "dedicated" vendors, so don't let this put you off. The 18-metre-high waterfall is just a few meters from the parking lot and easily accessible.
You can first view this beautiful natural phenomenon from above and take a few souvenir photos together with the waterfall. You can then continue down over rocky terrain or via a paved staircase to observe this highlight up close.
The whole setting in the middle of the green, dense jungle on Koh Samui with the rushing water was truly magical. If you like, you can even take a dip in one of the natural pools and refresh yourself!
💡: The name of the waterfall "Na Muang" means Purple waterfallThis is due to the shimmering purple rocks over which the water flows.
Tip: Don't forget your bikini & swimming trunks! 🙂
How do the Namuang 1 and 2 waterfalls differ?
- Geographically speaking, Namuang Waterfall 1 is located further down in the valley, while Namuang Waterfall 2 is much higher and at the same time deeper in the jungle.
- Namuang Waterfall 1 has a height of 18 meterswhile the drop height of Namuang Waterfall 2 is a considerable 80 meters is high.
- The lower waterfall offers quite a Developed, spacious area - ideally adapted to tourism on Koh Samui (with public toilets, souvenir stores and some food stalls). There are pretty, safe photo spots on large rocks and also some bathing spots on the grounds, which are ideal for swimming. Family outings with children suitable. At Namuang 2 there is only a small store at the start of the trail; further up there is nothing but pure nature.
- Namuang Waterfall 1 is easily accessible and can be reached on foot in a few minutes from the parking lot. The ascent to Namuang Waterfall 2 is very steep. adventurous and requires good physical fitness. It goes steeply upwards via unsurfaced paths that are equipped with auxiliary ropes. You really have to be careful here, especially in the rain, or better leave it alone (and wait for good weather) because it can get very slippery very quickly! On the way up, you will pass many pretty photo backdrops and small bathing pools. At the top, the view is really phenomenal and the effort was worth it! You can find more information including a picture gallery of our trip here here.
- ConclusionNamuang 1 is ideal for families with children, while Namuang 2 is a great destination for outdoor enthusiasts and adventure fans.
